Emerson, Lake & Palmer's 'Trilogy' Receives Deluxe Treatment

Razor & Tie have announced that Trilogy, the seminal third album from British rock giants Emerson Lake & Palmer will be released on June 30th in a brand new deluxe format, featuring new stereo mixes, a previously unheard version of "From The Beginning" and a brand new 5.1 mix for the first time.

Keith Emerson, Greg Lake & Carl Palmer’s Trilogy stormed the charts in 1972 reaching number #2 in the UK and #5 on the US Billboard Chart, and the new deluxe edition has all the benefits of technological advances in sound reproduction. Disc One comprises the original nine tracks in pristine condition, while Disc Two includes new stereo mixes and a never-before heard version of "From The Beginning." Disc Three offers an immaculate 5.1 sound mix courtesy of King Crimson’s Jakko Jakszyk.

“If I were forced to choose just one album from the catalog then it would probably have to be Trilogy, "Greg Lake said. "This record was made at a time when the band's inspiration and motivation was absolutely on fire and yet at the same time we had been together for long enough to have begun to form our own musical identity.“

Carl Palmer added, “We wanted to make an album that was the best it could be. The excitement in the studio at the time was electrifying as we listened back to the heavily overdubbed backing tracks. Personally for me, I had a great time recording this album. This was an extremely memorable period in my career, and I am sure I can say the same for everyone involved.”

“It was a very experimental period and we were all wondering where it would go…least of all our audience," Keith Emerson recalled. "But our audience were with us so we went with them”

The release follows the 50th Anniversary of the Emerson Moog Modular System, the synthesizer that changed and inspired the world of popular and electronic music forever with it’s pioneering sounds. Keith Emerson toured the world for over forty years with this unique legendary instrument and has made his Moog modular system the most recognizable synthesizer of all time.

Trilogy, produced by Greg Lake, was ELP’s third album complete with the cover art designed by the legendary Hipgnosis. It covers a broad musical landscape from the ever-impressive display of virtuosity on the often-live highlight "Hoedown," the softer delicate composition "From The Beginning," and displaying their sense of humor on "The Sheriff." Ambitious and often other worldly; If ever there was an album that showed ELP at their fullest and finest, Trilogy was the band’s moment of magnificence.
