Legacy Recordings Releasing 'Jaco: Original Soundtrack' On Record Store Day Black Friday 2015

Legacy Recordings is releasing Jaco: Original Soundtrack on Friday, November 27, 2015. A single-disc collection of music from the documentary film, Jaco, the set includes three new recordings including two riveting interpretations of Jaco classics: "Come On Come Over" by Mass Mental (featuring Robert Trujillo, Armand Sabal-Lecco, Flea, Whit Crane, Benji Webbe, Stephen Perkins & C-Minus) and "Continuum" by Rodrigo y Gabriel; and "Shine," the new track by Tech N9ne containing a sample of "Kuru," as recorded by Jaco Pastorius.

Produced by Robert Trujillo and Jaco's eldest son John Pastorius IV, Jaco: Original Soundtrack brings together 16 essential recordings including Jaco Pastorius solo tracks, Weather Report masterpieces and musical collaborations with Joni Mitchell, Ian Hunter, Herbie Hancock and more. The album offers music fans the rare evocative sonic soundscape, "Longing," featuring the bassist's daughter Mary Pastorius (vox), Chuck Doom (bass), Robert Thomas, Jr. (hand drums/drum kit) and God (rain/thunder).

A full-length documentary film chronicling the life, music and ongoing influence of the mythic electric bass pioneer Jaco Pastorius, Jaco is produced by Robert Trujillo (bassist for Metallica, Infectious Grooves, Mass Mental) John Pastorius IV, Bob Bobbing, and John Battsek of Passion Pictures ("Searching for Sugar Man," "Project Nim") and marks the directorial debut of documentary filmmaker Paul Marchand and Stephen Kijak ("Scott Walker: 30 Century Man," "Cinemania").

Jaco incorporates interviews with musical visionaries including Sting, Joni Mitchell, Flea, Jerry Jemmott, Bootsy Collins, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana and others with never-before-seen photos and films from the Pastorius family archive.

This film reveals the story behind the bassist's life and music, both as a solo artist and member of Weather Report, the tragic arc of his demise and early death and the enduring influence and inspiration of his artistry and genius.

Legacy's Jaco: Original Soundtrack includes liner notes on Jaco Pastorius penned by Robert Trujillo and album co-producer Chuck Doom.

Also slated for consumer home release on November 27, Jaco, the documentary, will be available via VOD, streaming services, digital download and on DVD and Blu-ray.

The film had its world premiere earlier this year at Austin's SxSW Film Conference & Festival, accompanied by a panel discussion featuring filmmakers Trujillo and Marchand as well as longtime Pastorius collaborator Peter Erskine (Weather Report, Word of Mouth) and Executive Producer John Pastorius.

Jaco has garnered acclaim at a number of major festivals, including the inaugural Asbury Park Music in Film Festival and the Montreal International Jazz Festival. The film “(captures) the essence of what made Jaco Pastorius such an influential artist,” declared the Montreal Gazette, praising “the glowing words of Marchand’s interviewees and the many recorded and live musical excerpts that he lets speak for themselves” and hailing Jaco as “an enlightening introduction to a groundbreaking musician.”

The Zombies Return To Album Charts After Nearly 50 Years

In December 1964, America was in the grips of the British Invasion's first year, and England's The Zombies shot to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 with their debut chart hit "She's Not There.” The smash kicked off a successful five-year period in which the band notched three top 10s on the Hot 100 between 1964 and 1969 (including the No. 3 hit “Time of the Season”), followed by a breakup that lasted over two decades.

Fast-forward to 2015 where, half a century after their first hit, the band is back on six different Billboard album charts, thanks to a new album and a previous project.

On Top Rock Albums (dated Oct. 31), the band’s new album, Still Got That Hunger, debuts at No. 35 with 3,000 copies sold in the week ending Oct. 15, according to Nielsen Music (the band’s best sales week since Nielsen began tracking sales in 1991). The set also bows at No. 15 on Internet Albums, No. 24 on Independent Albums, No. 94 on Top Current Albums and No. 100 on Top Album Sales. In addition, Odessey & Oracle, perhaps the band's most well-regarded record, enters the Vinyl Albums chart at No. 24 thanks to 1,000 in LP sales.

The band last charted on an album tally in June 1969, when Odessey & Oracle finished its run on the Billboard 200 chart (dated June 7).

For Rod Argent, an original member of the five-piece group, the news came as a bit of a surprise -- but then, the band felt it was their best effort in a long time, so if any record was going to bring them back, it'd be Hunger.

So why are fans still onboard 50 years later?

"I think maybe in part it's because they sense the honesty," Argent says. "We're still driven by exactly the same things as we were when we first started. The excitement of seeing song structures really starting to work, both on record and on stage. Onstage, nothing beats the thrill of feeling the energy of the crowd really responding to what you are doing, and on record absolutely nothing beats the thrill of hearing a new track being played on the radio for the very first time -- and sounding good."

Part of the success of Hunger could be attributed to the fan-involving process of crowd-funding, which the Zombies used via Pledge Music, allowing contributors to receive early releases of songs and video from the studio pre-release. Thirty dollars scored funders the record on vinyl as well as a digital download, with other levels featuring various gifts and incentives as well.

"The crowd-funding route has been brilliant for us," Argent says. "It's provided us with the money and the freedom to make exactly the album we wanted to make, and we're really grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey. Being able to involve the fans in the whole process from the beginning, for instance by showing a very early rehearsal where harmonies were being  worked on, felt remarkably  good: intimate moments shared in the nicest way. And successful, I think, from the point of view of making people feel part of the final record -- and wanting to buy it."

The band plans a worldwide tour in support of the record; after concluding a brief U.S. set later this month, the group will head to Europe.

Queen's A Night At The Odeon, Live At Hammersmith ’75 Celebrates 40 Years Of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

"Bohemian Rhapsody" was the song that changed everything, a song that resonates through time, a special moment in music history that has yet to be repeated.  At The Q Awards this week, Queen were presented with the Classic Single Award, marking the 40th anniversary of song which was originally released on October 31, 1975.

To mark the occasion for the first time ever, "Bohemian Rhapsody" will be released on 12-inch black vinyl with the original B-side "I’m In Love With My Car" on November 27, 2015. Alongside this, Queen, A Night At The Odeon, Live At Hammersmith ’75, is set for release on CD (Hollywood Records), DVD and Blu-Ray (Eagle Rock Entertainment).  This show was a culmination of the 26-date ‘Queen Invite You To A Night At The Opera’ UK tour and the first tour that they had ever performed "Bohemian Rhapsody" on.

The CD, DVD and Blu-Ray package features the band’s full live show, complete with a never heard before ‘second encore’ of "Seven Seas Of Rhye" and "See What A Fool I've Been."  The DVD and SD Blu-Ray versions also contain two special bonus features – Looking Back At The Odeon, a brand new 22-minute documentary featuring a previously unseen interview with Brian May and Roger Taylor by Old Grey Whistle Test presenter Bob Harris about the 1975 Hammersmith Odeon show, plus the rarely seen Live At The Budokan – Japan 1975 footage, featuring three songs ("Now I'm Here," "Killer Queen" and "In The Lap Of The Gods… Revisited") recorded during their legendary tour of the Far East.

Spirits were high within the band for this show; "Bohemian Rhapsody" - universally hailed as one of the most ground-breaking ‘pop’ songs ever released – was in the middle of its record-breaking nine week run at Number One in the UK charts. Their fourth album, A Night At The Opera (the most expensive record ever made to that point) was climbing the album charts on its way to No 1, which it achieved three days after this concert.

With over 6.5 million copies sold worldwide, "Bohemian Rhapsody" is one of the world’s most well known and well loved songs. To this day, it continues to top ‘favorite song’ opinion polls and be discovered by new generations of music fans over and over again.  Freddie wrote the whole song – including the composite harmonies – on telephone books and scraps of paper.

Brian May recalled recording "Bohemian Rhapsody"; “That was a great moment, but the biggest thrill for us was actually creating the music in the first place. I remember Freddie coming in with loads of bits of paper from his dad's work, like Post-it notes, and pounding on the piano. He played the piano like most people play the drums. And this song he had was full of gaps where he explained that something operatic would happen here and so on. He'd worked out the harmonies in his head."

Queen spent days overdubbing the vocals in the studio using a 24-track tape machine. By the time they were done, about 120 vocal tracks were layered together.  The opera parts alone took longer than 70 hours to complete.  At the time, it was the most expensive single ever made and upon presenting it to their record label, they were told by various executives that five minutes 55 seconds was too long and the song would never be a hit.  But after the song was played by DJ and friend of Freddie, Kenny Everett, 14 times in two days before its official release, the song was only ever destined to be a hit.  Hordes of fans attempted to buy the single only to be told by record stores that it had not yet been released.  Over in the US, it was the same. American radio RKO managed to get a copy of the tape and started to play it in across their network, which forced the hand of Queen's US label to release the song in its entirety.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" was Queen's first ever number 1 single and the 1975 UK Christmas number one, holding the top position for nine weeks. It is the first song ever to get to number one in the UK twice with the same version, and is also the only single to have been Christmas number one twice with the same version. The second was upon its re-release (as a double A-side single with "These Are the Days of Our Lives") in 1991 following Mercury's death, staying at number one for five weeks,  eventually becoming the UK's third best-selling single of all time.

The single has sold in excess of 6.5 million copies worldwide and has been covered by everyone from Kayne West during his 2015 controversial Glastonbury headline slot, Axl Rose, Elton John and Pink to The Flaming Lips and Elaine Paige and forever immortalized again by Mike Myers and Dana Carvey in the smash hit 90’s film, Wayne’s World.

John Fogerty’s Memoir To Debut On NY Times Best Sellers List

John Fogerty’s Fortunate Son: My Life, My Music, published by Little, Brown and Company, will debut on the New York Times Best Sellers Hardcover Non-Fiction list at #14 on the list dated October 25, 2015.  The book will also appear on the E-Book Best Sellers and Combined Print & E-Book Best Sellers lists at #15 for the same date.

“I spent many, many hours reflecting and writing about the details of my life, from childhood dreams, the passion behind my music, all leading up to my life today,” says Fogerty. “I am very excited to have my fans read and share in my story.  It hasn’t been easy, but where it leads certainly has been worth it all.”

Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of the most important and beloved bands in the history of Rock ‘n Roll, and John Fogerty’s memoir tells a story that will keep music lovers and avid readers captivated. Fogerty wrote, sang, and produced the iconic classics "Born on the Bayou," "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising," and so many more. Now he reveals how he brought CCR to the top of the charts and how, one year later, CCR was falling apart. Their amazing talents and culturally-prophetic songs, however, have endured for decades despite the series of personal and legal issues. Fortunate Son takes readers from Fogerty ’s Northern California roots, through Creedence's success, his retreat from music and public life, to Fogerty’s hard-won revival as a solo artist who finally, through it all, found love.

Fogerty was songwriter, lead singer, and lead guitarist for Creedence Clearwater Revival and is one of rock's most influential musicians and writers. Fogerty has been named one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters (No. 40), 100 Greatest Guitarists (No. 40) and one of the 100 Greatest Singers (No. 72), by Rolling Stone and his most recent album was named one of RS's 10 Best Albums of 2013. Fogerty has earned induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and now adds respected author to his accolades.

Next week, Fogerty continues his stint on the Emmy-Award winning show, The Voice, as mentor to coach Adam Levine’s Team.  The Voice airs on NBC at 8:00 pm ET/PT.

John Fogerty will also be making the following additional appearance in Los Angeles:

•  Friday - October 16, 2015 - 8:00 pm – Fogerty in Conversation with David Wild - Live Talks LA at the Grammy Museum Clive Davis Theater- 800 W Olympic Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. This event is sold out.

Deep Purple, Yes, Steve Miller, The Cars, Cheap Trick & Chicago Among 2016 Rock Hall of Fame Nominees

The nominees for the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction have just been announced, and Deep Purple, Yes, Steve Miller, The Cars, Cheap Trick and Chicago are among the 15 contenders.

Deep Purple have been eligible for more than 15 years already, having long been mentioned by the hard rock community as a glaring snub in years past.

Other nominees include the Smiths, N.W.A., Janet Jackson, Chicago, Chaka Khan, Chic, Los Lobos, The J.B.’s and the Spinners.

Acts become eligible for nomination into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first record, but can continue to be on the ballot each year if they fail to get inducted in prior years.

As it has done the past few years, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is offering fans the chance to vote for their favorite nominees. A fan vote counts for just 1 of more than 800 ballots cast by “artists, historians and members of the music industry.”

The 2016 inductees are expected to be announced in December, so stay tuned to see which acts will make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Usually, five or six of the nominees get in each year.

PEACE JAM 2015 Benefit Concert To Feature John Stamos, Cherie Currie, Members Of Roger Waters' Band & More

PEACE JAM
After the overwhelming success of PEACE JAM 2014, the stage is set for an encore on Sunday, November 22, at the Gaslamp Restaurant & Bar in Long Beach, California. All proceeds from PEACE JAM 2015 will go to humanitarian and musician Lanny Cordola’s efforts in helping children living in poverty and conflict zones, including Afghanistan and Pakistan.

PEACE JAM 2015 features an impressive roster of talent, including special appearances by John StamosDave Coulier and Jodie Sweetin, stars of the popular sitcom Full House, who recently reunited for a 2016 reboot of the series called Fuller House. John Stamos is currently starring in the new FOX comedy Grandfathered.

Also scheduled to appear are singer Robbie Wyckoff and keyboardist Harry Waters (members of Roger Waters’ touring band and featured in the film Roger Waters The Wall), along with rapper Sen Dog (Cypress Hill), singer Cherie Currie (The Runaways), singer Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray), singer Donovan Leitch (Royal Machines), drummer Kris Myers (Umphrey’s McGee), singer Phillip Bardowell (Beach Boys), keyboardist Gary Griffin (Beach Boys, Brian Wilson), singer Bret Aldstadt, author Mark Levine, singer Sandra Stephens, bassist William Edward Dagsher, singer / songwriter Kern Richards, jazz trumpeter Tony Guerrero, Soldiers of Sound, Random, Cosmic Reaction, and Brad Pupello. The incomparable Lucky John will be on hand to emcee the night.

They now live in a nicer home with running water and electricity, the kids are going to school, and a better quality of life is now a reality,” Cordola says. “My hope is that with PEACE JAM 2015, we can continue to help this family and others in need, including continuing our project ‘Girl With A Guitar,’ to teach girls in poor areas the guitar."

Cordola began his journey through Pakistan and Afghanistan in 2010, collaborating with musicians on a peace-through-music project. “After visiting and meeting many kids who were living in poverty stricken areas and conflict zones, I decided to raise funds on their behalf, “ the musician recalls. “These Miraculous Love Kids’ lives are important, just as all our lives are important. I've become their friend, their advocate, their song and dance man. As Tom Petty sings: ‘You can stand me up at the gates of hell but I won't back down.’"

The Winery Dogs Are Back And On A 'Hot Steak'

The Winery Dogs (Richie Kotzen Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan) have released a second self-produced album called Hot Streak on Loud & Proud Records. The first single, “Oblivion,” released on August 25, went to #23 on Billboard's "Mainstream Rock Tracks" chart.  A video for the song is forthcoming and a double vinyl edition of the new album is also in the works for release in early November. The trio's 2015-2016 U.S. headlining tour is now underway.

Hot Streak shows the band's initial burst of collective chemistry was no accident, from the strum and headbang of “Captain Love” to the propulsive uplifting vibe of “The Bridge” to the introspective acoustic harmonic convergence of “Fire.” If they thought they captured lightning in a supper dish the first time around, Hot Streak barks ups the aural ante into exciting new territory.

The trio first exploded onto the rock scene with their self-titled, self-produced debut album, released July 23, 2013 on Loud & Proud Records.  A worldwide tour followed.  The Winery Dogs debuted on Billboard’s “Top Alternative Albums” chart at #3, “Top Independent Albums” chart at #4, “Top Rock Albums” chart at #5, “Top Internet Albums” at #8 and “Top 200 Albums” chart at #27.

“I feel we’ve taken the band to another level,” explains singer/guitarist Richie Kotzen. “The compositions are stronger on this album. I feel more connected lyrically and musically to what I did on this record than on the last one. We’ve widened the musical scope of the band on this record and moved it forward."

Drummer Mike Portnoy continues, “Everything on this album was more of a collaboration than on the first album. There’s just a natural chemistry. The three of us really mesh very, very well, both musically and personally. The mission of this band is to write catchy songs, and not have the musicianship overpower that.”

“I’m glad we’re not playing it safe and just doing songs that automatically fit in the category of what we did on the first record,” bassist Billy Sheehan concludes. “Some of them are a little different, and we definitely took chances. And you have to do that — otherwise, you don’t grow."

Intelligent Music Project III Album Features Toto’s Joseph Williams, Simon Phillips & Ex-Asia Singer John Payne

A year after releasing the all-star project My Kind O’ Lovin’, producer and composer Milen Vrabevski returns to fulfill, as earlier claimed, his promise and ambition with Intelligent Music Project III 's Touching The Divine.

The new album features session legends Simon Phillips and Tim Pierce, and Nathan East courtesy of YEG. Тhe production concept relies again on two project launchers – guest stars John Payne (ex-Asia) and Toto’s Joseph Williams.

“It’s wonderful to explore working with Milen," Williams remarked. "The project has a wonderful message, accompanied with some beautiful music and some great rock ‘n’ roll – the musicians in this project are top-noch.”

Musically Touching The Divine delivers a thrilling example of straightforward songwriting combined with rich and layered sound and gently executed dynamic spins. The first single "Mind Projection" is a melodic and energetic slice of AOR, scored with John Payne’s powerful vocal arrangement and virtuoso instrumental charge, that lets you in deeper to the magic ingredient of this sophisticated project. Bass great Nathan East and fabulous Simon Phillips stamp their own authority in this piece, as well on the record throughout.

Full creative input by all guest stars in the project. Recording sessions took place at Simon Phillips’ Phantom recordings (Williams, Pierce, Phillips and East) and at Intelligent Music Studios in Sofia (Payne, Pierce and vocals from Carl Sentance, recently appointed as Nazareth’s lead singer). Says Simon, “Music is an universal language. It’s really a blessing to have the opportunity to work with musicians from around the world.”

"Mind Projection" brings together once again the positive idea of the producer and composer Milen Vrabevski, that following the true excitement of our hearts and souls will give us the key to living a conscious live and to spiritual satisfaction, we often call happiness. Says Nathan, “This project is very special to me, because of the nature of the message of the project. I was very inspired and happy with the idea, because the message has value and meaning and I am about that. The word ‘inspirational’ is what I use to describe this project.”

John Payne, who continues his 14 year legacy as “ASIA Featuring John Payne,” says, “Doing this project with Milen – it has been great, really – these songs have a lot of structure and melody. It’s a very mature project, it’s a very intelligent project for the mind.”

Vrabevski adds, “I believe we managed to deliver an astonishing sound once again and it will delight the ears and sound systems of hardcore rockers all around the world. Bearing in mind the top-notch level of our guest stars, I allowed myself mainly to record the acoustic guitar of the first single "Mind Projection."
