Unreleased Beatles Demo Currently For Sale On eBay

A previously-unreleased demo recorded by the Beatles is currently up for sale on eBay.

The 1963 demo contains a version of the track "What Goes On," which is on 1965's Rubber Soul album.

The version on the demo features John Lennon on vocals instead of Ringo Starr, and contains different lyrics from the final version. An excerpt is featured below.

Parlogram are behind the current sale, with the eBay listing stating that “the acetate on offer here however contains the original home demo version recorded by John & Paul in early 1963.

“The recording of "What Goes On" on this acetate is one of the rare tracks/performances by the Beatles which has never been released either officially or unofficially. The original tape of this demo recording is not known to exist and is presumed lost.”

The eBay listing at press time stands at £2,272 after 10 bids. The auction will conclude on October 1 at 9:10 pm.

Back in August, the original score for The Fab Four’s "Eleanor Rigby" was expected to reach £20,000 at auction.

The sheet, which was handwritten by producer George Martin, is also signed by Paul McCartney and includes producer notes that the track should have four violins, two violas and two cellos.

Yoko Ono Forces Polish Lemonade Company 'John Lemon' to Change Name

For decades, Beatles fans have accused Yoko Ono of breaking up the band. The veracity of such a claim is up for debate, but Ono Lennon did try to break up a lemonade company that was capitalizing off the name of her late husband, John Lennon.

Ono Lennon’s lawyers recently sent legal letters to John Lemon, a Polish lemonade company established five years ago that distributes to bars and restaurants in the United Kingdom and 13 other European countries, The Guardian reports. Her lawyers cited trademark infringement against her husband’s name and personal rights, telling the East London Advertiser, “They were abusing and misusing the legacy of John Lennon to sell their soda.”

The musician and activist’s legal team also cited a Facebook post by John Lemon Ireland that displayed a mural of Lennon holding lemons with the company’s logo underneath. Other advertisements displayed round glasses that recalled Lennon’s signature frames, along with the words, “Let It Be.”

Upon receiving the letters, John Lemon agreed to change its name to On Lemon.

“All of us involved with this product are startups and we couldn't take on someone who is worth many, many millions,” Mr. Lemonade Alternative Drinks founder Karol Chamera told the East London Advertiser. (Incidentally, "On Lemon" is remarkably similar to "Ono Lennon," though there's nothing she can do about that.)

Hugo Bałaziński of law firm KSP, which represented John Lemon, said the company concluded a settlement to avoid having its lemonade production banned. He noted, however, that John Lemon registered its trademark in 2014, while the John Lennon brand was not registered until last year.

Ultimately, it proved a moot point -- when you've spent so many years engaged in bitter spats with Paul McCartney, you learn how to stand your ground, in court or otherwise.

David Bowie Live Event To Take Place September 26 In Berlin

The upcoming release of the David Bowie: A New Career In A New Town (1977 - 1982) boxed set will be celebrated with an event at the world-famous Hansa Studios in Berlin on Tuesday, September 26 at 2:00 PM ET and be live-streamed via www.facebook.com/davidbowie

The live event will feature a Q&A session with guests including Carlos Alomar (Bowie's guitarist from 1974 to 1987), Edu Meyer (the former sound engineer at Hansa Studios), and Chris Duffy (son of photographer Brian Duffy, and director of the Duffy Archive) who will be discussing Bowie's work from 1977-1982. Bowie's Facebook page will also be featuring previously unheard audio streams on the day of the event.

Hansa Tonstudio, or "Hansa By The Wall" as it came to be known, was where Bowie recorded parts of his  Low album along with "Heroes," which celebrates its 40th anniversary this month.

David Bowie: A New Career In A New Town (1977 - 1982) is the third in a series of boxed sets spanning David Bowie's career from 1969.

The 11-CD box, 13-piece vinyl set and the Mastered For iTunes and standard digital download set is named after a track from the first of the so-called "Berlin Trilogy," includes Low, "Heroes," Stage (Original and 2017 Versions), the former in the vinyl box will be pressed on yellow vinyl, replicating its original limited edition U.K. release and the latter of which featuring two previously unreleased tracks, Lodger, Lodger (Tony Visconti 2017 Mix), Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), Re:Call 3 (featuring contemporary single versions, non-album singles, b-sides and songs featured on soundtracks) and the "Heroes" E.P., a compilation exclusive to the set celebrating the 40th anniversary of the song, which rounds up the German and French album and single versions of the track in one place for the first time.

Exclusive to each of the boxed sets is Lodger (Tony Visconti 2017 Mix). The remix was started with Bowie's blessing before his passing in January last year. Tony Visconti has revisited the original multi-tracks at Human Studios and remixed the album with the benefit of modern technology to better highlight the album's nuances. Always a personal favorite of the singer, this version of the album will also feature newly 'remixed' artwork featuring unseen images from the original cover photographic session.

Also exclusive to each box is Re:Call 3, a new compilation featuring remastered contemporary single versions, non-album singles and b-sides, and songs featured on soundtracks. The cover features a photo by Christian Simonpietri taken at Hansa Studios in Berlin during the "Heroes" sessions in 1977. The Baal E.P. in its entirety is making its CD debut while "Beauty And The Beast" (extended version) and "Breaking Glass" (Australian single version) are making their debuts on CD and digitally.

The physical boxed set's accompanying book, 128 pages in the CD box and 84 in the vinyl set, will feature rarely seen and previously unpublished photos by photographers including Anton Corbijn, Helmut Newton, Andrew Kent, Steve Schapiro, Duffy and many others as well as historical press reviews and technical notes about the albums from producer Tony Visconti.

The CD boxed set will include faithfully reproduced mini-vinyl versions of the original albums, and the CDs will be gold coloured rather than the usual silver. The vinyl boxed set has the same content as the CD set and is pressed on audiophile quality 180g vinyl.

David Bowie: A New Career In A New Town (1977-1982) will also be made available in high definition audio digital formats (192kHZ/24bit and 96kHZ/24bit). Content varies from other formats due to the resolution of the available original source material.

Eagles Songwriter Jack Tempchin Instills 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' With New Album

Through the years, there are many songs that take us to another place, that fuel our creativity and lighten our hearts. Jack Tempchin, the multi-platinum songwriter for Glenn Frey and the Eagles, has written many of those hits.

He is responsible for the lyrics that have become emblazoned not only within us as individuals, but in our culture as well. Jack wrote the songs we’ve all danced and sung along to – “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” “Slow Dancing,” “The One You Love,” and who can forget, “You Belong To The City” from the Miami Vice TV soundtrack.  More recently, Tempchin released his greatest hits on one album, Peaceful Easy Feeling – The Songs of Jack Tempchin through Blue Elan Records.

In a poignant tribute to the fabled friendship he shared with his “musical brother“ Glenn Frey, the album features 12 of their songs. Tempchin takes to the mic as both solo and duet with guest vocalists like Rita Coolidge, Janiva Magness, Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen.  Finally, there is one very special track on this album, a previously unreleased piece written with Glenn Frey – “Privacy.”

In the liner notes of Peaceful Easy Feeling – The Songs of Jack Tempchin, the songwriter wrote “This album is dedicated to my great friend of 46 years, Glenn Frey. Glenn and I always had a fabulous time writing songs together. We would talk about our lives and laugh. He was the funniest person I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. It was my great good fortune that my buddy happened to be one of the best songwriters of all time. Goodbye my friend and musical brother. Thanks for all the wonderful times.”

Earlier this month, Tempchin was interviewed and performed on PBS’ INSIDE OC with Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Rick Reiff. His recollections on his long, impressive career and musical talent was broadcast throughout Southern California. For repeated air times, check the listing of your local PBS SoCal station.

Unreleased Steve Miller Band Track Surfaces, Will Appear On Upcoming Retrospective Set

Going through a warehouse crammed with 50 years of archival material yielded things Steve Miller had forgotten about, as well as things he didn't even know existed, as he prepared for his new catalog deal with Capitol/UMe and the upcoming Ultimate Hits set.

Among those was the previously unheard, lush but also austere version of "Seasons," from sessions for 1969's Brave New World album. "I had stopped looking around for 'Seasons,'" Miller said, "and we were going through mixes and cassettes and looking for thins and we found this version of it -- and I thought it was better than the original one. I didn't even know it existed. I don't even remember doing it. I have a really good memory; I usually remember almost everything I've done but I was just really surprised by that version of it. I think it's the best version, so I was happy to find it."

Ultimate Hits, due out Sept. 15 in single- and double-disc deluxe versions, feature three and eight unreleased tracks, respectively. The compilation, personally curated by Miller, is the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's first gambit under his new deal, which puts his entire nearly 50-year output under the same roof.

"I had controlled different parts of (the catalog),and I had different companies around the world releasing it here and there," Miller says. "The 50th anniversary is coming up next year, so we decided it was time to just start looking at everything and put it all together, and create a situation where we can have one company represent it worldwide and coordinate all the reissues and everything. It's turned out to be a really good idea."

A vinyl box set, also with bonus tracks, is being prepared for 2018, along with more touring to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his first two Steve Miller Band albums, Children Of The Future and Sailor. And Miller confirms that his vaults -- which he considered simply throwing out until his wife and some archivists intervened -- are brimming with treasures. "There's a lot of things that Paul (McCartney) and I did, probably eight or nine things that we recorded that I never released," Miller says. "There's some really interesting pieces with Brian Wilson, and there's some great blues stuff that I did with Cannonball Adderly that's more of a blues-jazz project.

IThere's a lot of live performances with lots of great artists that I toured with over the years," he continues. "There's some really good stuff with Paul Rodgers and Neal Schon...Oh gosh, there's just so much of it. There's lots and lots of live shows with different artists."

Miller -- who also serves on the Board of Jazz at Lincoln Center and on the board of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Musical Instrument Department -- won't only be putting out archival music, either. "I'm writing new material now," he says. "I'm still interested in making records and recording music. I think just taking all this time took at this huge archive and study it and pull things together, it makes you want to write some more things. The best part of it is I haven't lost my appetite for the work. And now we're planning next year's tour and I'm really excited about all that stuff."

Sammy Hagar To Be Honored At Loudwire Music Awards

Loudwire Music Awards has announced that Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and longtime Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar will be honored for his charitable efforts with The Hagar Family Foundation on Tuesday, October 24 at The Novo in downtown Los Angeles. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth and Rob Halford of Judas Priest will also perform alongside several other artists during the night's concert.

Tickets for Loudwire Music Awards are on sale now at LoudwireAwards.com.

"It's always exciting to receive an award. But this one is extra special," Hagar says. "To be recognized for something you truly love doing and in front of an audience of your peers, doesn't get any better than that!"

The Hagar Family Foundation -- created by the singer and his wife Kari Hagar -- is a private non-profit which puts their community philosophy towards giving into action by eliminating the red tape in getting funds and food quickly into the hands of the people and charities in need.

"We look for things that are grassroots," explains Hagar. "We want to give a dollar to somebody and have it go right in their pocket or put food on their table."

Since the launch of their foundation in 2008, they've given away almost $4 million.

WWE superstar Chris Jericho will serve as host for the first-ever Loudwire Music Awards ceremony and concert with the Grammy Award-winning Rob Halford of Judas Priest receiving the "Lemmy Lifetime Achievement Award"-- named in honor of late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister.

Halford will join Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, who will be presented with the "Courage Award," which recognizes not only his unparalleled musical output, but his absolute bravery in his battle with cancer.

Confirmed presenters so far for Loudwire Music Awards include Zakk Wylde, Steve Vai, Vinnie Paul, John 5, Rex Brown, Brendon Small, Brian Posehn, and members of As Lions, August Burns Red, Avatar, Beartooth, Bloodclot, Butcher Babies, Crown the Empire, Ded, Demon Hunter, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Hellyeah, Hollywood Undead, Ice Nine Kills, Huntress, LA Guns, New Years Day, Of Mice & Men, Pop Evil, PowerFlo, Prayers, Quiet Riot, Red Fang, Royal Thunder, Steel Panther, Stitched Up Heart, Sum 41, Sylar, Wage War and many more to be announced.

Steely Dan's Walter Becker Toiled In Relative Anonymity -- But Not To Musicians

Virtually unnoticed and certainly not harassed, Walter Becker and his partner in the rock band Steely Dan, Donald Fagen, sat in a booth having lunch in a crowded restaurant near the airport in Maui toward the end of tourist season in 1997.

You couldn’t imagine Mick Jagger doing the same thing. Or David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon or any other peer. Becker, who died at age 67 on Sunday (Sept. 3), and Fagen had the gift of relative anonymity in a field where celebrity can do incalculable damage.

Yet anyone who listened to FM rock radio in the 1970s and early 1980s knew their work well. “Deacon Blues,” ″Rikki Don’t Lose That Number,” ″Peg,” ″Reelin’ in the Years,” ″Hey Nineteen” ″Do it Again,” ″Black Friday” -- it was a formidable canon in a relatively short time.

They even wrote a song about the medium: “FM,” with its memorable line “no static at all.”

The music was airtight and erudite, informed by jazz and the senses of humor the two men shared since the day Fagen, hearing Becker playing blues guitar in a student lounge in upstate New York’s Bard College (“My Old School”) decided he had to introduce himself. They famously “borrowed” their band’s name from a sex toy in William S. Burroughs’ novel Naked Lunch.

Becker and Fagen weren’t deterred from their musical vision even during an era, the late 1970s, when youthful rebellion made people who couldn’t play instruments very well fashionable.

“On the one hand, their music is warm and beautiful,” Moby said as he inducted Steely Dan into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. “On the other hand, their music is quite foreign. And that’s what makes them so wonderful and so unsettling.”

Becker’s fluid guitar runs snaked around Fagen’s vocals when Steely Dan performed “Black Friday” at that induction ceremony. While he wrote the songs with Fagen, Becker rarely sang. He wasn’t a frontman.

Fellow musicians certainly appreciated the work. Artists as diverse as Bette Midler, Questlove, Rickie Lee Jones, Ryan Adams and Bootsy Collins offered tributes on social media following Becker’s death.

“Hey, kids, spin ‘Pretzel Logic’ by Steely Dan in his honor if you don’t know it,” pianist and songwriter Ben Folds wrote on Twitter.

“I was once in a band that played only Steely Dan songs,” songwriter Jason Isbell posted. “It was hard and lots of fun.”

During Steely Dan’s creative peak, you couldn’t hear Becker and Fagen perform their songs live. Fed up with being the opening act to heavy metal bands, they swore off concert performances following a July 4, 1974, show to concentrate on the studio. They weren’t heard from again onstage until 1993.

“Basically, we were traveling around in close company with people who were really having a good time and partying and we weren’t,” Becker said in a 2000 interview with The Associated Press. “It was also a total drain from the creative process of writing songs and making records, which we needed to keep going at a certain pace just to have enough money to live.”

When Becker and Fagen resumed their partnership after more than a decade apart in the early 1990s, it was less as a creative force than a performing unit with the two men and the best musicians they could hire. While the 2000 album Two Against Nature unexpectedly won a Grammy Award for album of the year, a 2003 follow-up was the last collection of original music they released.

So while the world is deprived of any new Steely Dan music with Becker’s input, it’s not certain there would have been any anyway. Their old music will live on, though. If the Eagles can push on as a touring unit without Glenn Frey, certainly Steely Dan can do the same without Becker. It already did so this summer for concerts in New York and Los Angeles, where Fagen explained his old friend was recovering from a procedure. He promised in the wake of Becker’s death to continue.

“I intend to keep the music we created together alive as long as I can with the Steely Dan band,” Fagen wrote at the end of a tribute to Becker.
