This new Dolby Atmos version will be available on May 17, 2024.

Animals is the tenth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in January 1977.. It was recorded at the band's Britannia Row Studios in London throughout 1976 and early 1977, and was produced by the band themselves. The successful album peaked at number 2 in the UK and number 3 in the US and was recorded by band members David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright.

The Animals 2018 Remix – Dolby Atmos, which was overseen by James Guthrie, will be released on Blu-ray Disc. The high resolution stereo and 5.1 surround mixes will be included alongside the 1977 original stereo mix. The Dolby Atmos mix goes beyond ordinary listening by immersing the listener in the music, revealing details with unparalleled clarity and depth. Listeners will feel like they are inside the song as music moves around and above them.

The album artwork has been reimagined especially for this release and presented in a digipak with a 16-page booklet, a sticker and a postcard. The front cover image still includes the iconic pig floating between two chimneys of the Battersea Power Station, conceived by Roger Waters. However, for this new release, the artwork has been re-created for the modern era by Storm Thorgerson’s Hipgnosis partner Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell and Peter Curzon from StormStudios, and shows the historic building as it looks now, complete with light projections, variations of which feature in the accompanying booklet.

The projections and graphics were mapped and designed by Peter Curzon for the launch of the 2018 Remix and the photography is by Rupert Truman and Benny Trickett with Aubrey Powell. The 2022 projections were executed by Pixel Arts and coordinated by Larmac Live.Projections by Pixel Arts, coordinated by Larmac

Animals is a concept album, focusing on the social-political conditions of mid-1970s Britain, and was a change from the style of the band’s earlier work. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which describes the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of animals.

Inspired by George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the album depicts the different classes of people as animals with pigs being at the top of the social chain, dropping down to the sheep as the mindless herd following what they are told, with dogs as the business bosses getting fat on the money and power they hold over the other. Although it’s been a long time since 1977, the narrative of the album still resonates today as our social and economic situation mirrors that of the time.

Animals 2018 Remix is also available on CD, LP (with gatefold artwork), SACD, and Deluxe Gatefold formats. The Deluxe Gatefold version includes LP, CD, audio Blu-ray, audio DVD and a 32-page book.

For more information, visit pinkfloyd.com.
Vintage Rockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16558214895556962518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356418191057573401.post-35403075492103228672024-03-13T09:01:00.000-07:002024-03-13T09:01:54.211-07:00Spotify Testing Full Music Videos To Compete With YouTube, Apple Music

Spotify is rolling out full-length music videos in a limited beta launch for premium subscribers, venturing into an arena that YouTube has dominated for nearly two decades.
Music videos will be available to premium users in the UK, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya, in beta starting on Wednesday, the company said, as it attempts to grow its user base.

While it aims to reach 1 billion users by 2030, Spotify's new plan faces competition from Apple Music and YouTube, which allows users to watch music videos for free.

Spotify's roll-out will include a "limited catalog of music videos, including hits from global artists like Ed Sheeran or local favorites like Aluna," it said.

In March last year, Spotify had introduced under-30-second vertical videos that are uploaded directly to Spotify for artists.

The company has also expanded its offerings to include podcasts and audiobooks in a bid to attract more users.

In February, it forecast premium subscribers would reach 239 million in the current quarter, above estimates of 238.3 million.
Vintage Rockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16558214895556962518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356418191057573401.post-1126551132473081212024-03-12T09:26:00.000-07:002024-03-12T10:34:18.959-07:00Slash Announces S.E.R P.E.N.T. Due out May 17 on Hot Tomato Productions/MRI, Sam's Place marks the band’s first new studio album in 12 years, first-ever blues album, and the first one to feature linchpin conga player Sam Clayton on lead vocals on every song.
The album’s first single and video is “You’ll Be Mine,” a cover of the Willie Dixon-written number popularized by Howlin’ Wolf. Check out the video below.

The current lineup of Little Feat — Bill Payne, keyboards and vocals; Sam Clayton, percussion and vocals; Fred Tackett, guitars and vocals, Kenny Gradney, bass; Scott Sharrard, guitars and vocals; and Tony Leone, drums and vocals — bring their individual musical chops and collective chemistry to the nine-track Sam's Place, which was waxed at Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, TN in August 2023, except for “Got My Mojo Working (Live),” recorded live at the Boulder Theatre in Boulder, CO on December 17, 2022. This is the first Little Feat album recorded with new members Sharrard and Leone.
The band’s longtime friend Bonnie Raitt provides vocals on the Muddy Waters gem “Long Distance Call,” a duet with Sam, and the album’s other special guests are Michael “Bull” LoBue on harmonica, Marc Franklin on trumpet, and Art Edmaiston on saxophone on select songs.

Little Feat emerged from the pandemic with their sense of humor, chops, and collective joy in playing intact—and their creativity has been renewed with Sam's Place. The idea for the album started with Bill, but the whole band jumped in. They started working on songs at sound checks. Sam, Scott and Fred wrote a new song, “Milk Man.” Visiting backstage at a Feat show, Bonnie Raitt suggested the Howlin’ Wolf tune “You Will Be Mine.” Scott suggested “Why People Like That,” a Bobby Charles tune. Sam chose the Willy Dixon-penned “Don’t Go No Further,” a deep Muddy track. And they included a live version of “Got My Mojo Working.”

Scott had recorded in Memphis, and they eventually found their way to the second Phillips (the first was Sun Studios, where Elvis began his career) studio there, complete with Jerry Lee Lewis’s piano, which Bill noted “practically played itself.” Feat’s a rock band, but as Scott observed, at the end “the blues is home,” and they basically recorded it live in the studio, in the tradition. Their playing is at an all-time high, and Bill thought their musical conversation was “flawless.”

Sam was a happy vocalist. His own “Milk Man,” a song about his nephew, has lyrics from his wife, Joni. The duet with Bonnie on “Long Distance Call,” he humbly admitted, was classic. “We go good together, man.” “Last Night” was done in memory of Sam’s very good friend, the late Ed Bradley of Sixty Minutes. And “Why People Like That” was particularly satisfying. “I just like the way the slide sounds and everything. I knew Scott is a great slide player too, plus he is a great lead guitarist. And I know we would put our touch to it, the Little Feat touch. So we just sort of did it. Scott just adds a lot to it and he answers to what I'm singing.”

Sam's Place scratches a deep itch. Sam added, “I'm very happy because I was never expecting anything like that. I mean, I have wanted to, but I just wasn't expecting it to come to fruition. It was a long wait, but it’s satisfying.”

Pre-order Sam's Place.

Can’t Be Satisfied Tour 2024 dates below

May 31 > Greek Theatre - Berkeley, CA

June 1 > Greek Theatre - Berkeley, CA

June 4 > Grand Sierra Theatre - Reno, NV

June 5 > Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa Barbara, CA

June 7 > Greek Theatre - Los Angeles, CA

June 8 > Cal Coast Credit Union Amphitheater - San Diego, CA

June 9 > Greek Theatre - Los Angeles, CA

June 13 > Koka Booth Amphitheater- Cary, NC

June 14 > Pier Six Pavilion - Baltimore, MD

June 17 > Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - Pittsburgh, PA

June 18 > PNC Pavilion - Cincinnati, OH

June 20 > Everwise Amphitheater - Indianapolis, IN

June 21 > Meijer Gardens Amphitheater - Grand Rapids, MI

June 22 > Ravinia Festival - Highland Park, IL

June 24 > Victory Theatre - Evansville, IN

June 25 > The Factory - St. Louis, MO

June 26 > Uptown Theater - Kansas City, MO

June 28 > Washington Pavilion - Sioux Falls, SD

June 29 > Fitzgerald Theater - Saint Paul, MN

June 30 > Vetter Stone Amphitheater - Mankato, MN

July 2 > Hoyt Sherman Place - Des Moines, IA

July 3 > The Astro - Omaha, NE

July 5 > Red Rocks - Morrison, CO

August 25 > Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - Bethel Woods, NY

August 28 > The Mann Center - Philadelphia, PA

August 31 > Saratoga Performing Arts Center - Saratoga Springs, NY

For more information and ticket links, visit the Little Feat Tour page.

Vintage Rockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16558214895556962518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356418191057573401.post-16163763430957660852024-03-07T09:48:00.000-08:002024-03-07T10:05:08.858-08:00Prosecutors Drop Charges In 'Hotel California' Lyrics Case

Prosecutors have dropped a case against three men charged with conspiring to sell handwritten lyrics to the famed Eagles hit, "Hotel California."

A notepad containing the lyrics was allegedly stolen before the trio bought it, prosecutors said in February.

The three men - Glenn Horowitz, Craig Inciardi and Edward Kosinski - had pleaded not guilty to the charges in a New York court.

New evidence, however, called the case's fairness into question.

Former Eagles member Don Henley had claimed a yellow-lined notepad with Hotel California and other Eagles lyrics was stolen before being put up for sale in 2012.

The notepad was sold to Mr Horowitz for $50,000 in 2005 by Ed Sanders, a writer who had worked on a biography of the Eagles in the late 1970s.

The band had reportedly allowed Mr Sanders to access their archives, which included lyrics-filled notepads. Mr Henley later told a grand jury that he never gave Mr Sanders the lyrics.

Mr Henley's claims prompted an investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney's office and charges of conspiracy to possess stolen property and other offences for the three men. None were charged with stealing the documents.

On Wednesday (March 6), Assistant District Attorney Aaron Ginandes told the judge in the trial that prosecutors would dismiss the case because of newly revealed emails that the defense lawyers said raised concerns about fairness.

The emails were uncovered after Mr Henley apparently waived attorney-client privilege last week after having already testified. In total, more than 6,000 pages of material emerged afterwards.

"These delayed disclosures revealed relevant information that the defense should have had the opportunity to explore in cross-examination of...witnesses," Mr Ginandes wrote in court documents.

Judge Curtis Farber accused witnesses and their lawyers of using the attorney-client privilege to "obfuscate and hide information that they believed would be damaging."

The dismissal is a blow to the Attorney General's office, which began investigating the case years ago.

"We are glad the district attorney's office finally made the right decision to drop this case," Mr Horowitz's attorney Jonathan Bach was quoted as saying by CBS, the BBC's US partner. "It should never have been brought."

An attorney for Mr Kosinski, Scott Edelman, said the decision was "too little and too late" and that they would examine potential legal action of their own.

The 1976 Hotel California album has sold 26 million copies nationwide, making it among the best-selling albums in US history.
Vintage Rockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16558214895556962518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356418191057573401.post-25508893642035447302024-03-06T09:50:00.000-08:002024-03-06T09:50:45.530-08:00America's Gerry Buckley Releasing Tenth Solo Album

Gerry Buckley — singer, songwriter, performer and co-founder of America — will release his tenth solo album, Gerry Beckley, on June 28.

With America currently on an open-ended hiatus from touring, Beckley found time to go through some of the songs he had put away for a rainy day. Beckley had a lot to choose from — chronologically, stylistically, topically.

The debut single, “Crazy,” captures the raw essence of longing and the bittersweet ache of separation. With its heartfelt lyrics and evocative melody, the song paints a vivid portrait of the complexities of love and loss. Dating back more than 10 years, "Crazy" was written between breaks of America's then-grueling tour schedule.

Working with longtime producer and collaborator, Jeff Larson, Beckley explains: "Jeff and I found it on a hard drive, and I thought, 'That's pretty good. Gimme some time,'" remembers Beckley, who maintains studios in his two residences of Venice, California, and Sydney, Australia. "So, I went in and just did a bunch of extra stuff, layered it up, and it came out great. But it was one of those songs that I'd forgotten about." Beckley also likens it to the America smash "Sister Golden Hair," "in that it's not about anybody in particular. There's not a relationship I'm dancing around. But it's just themes that I've had in my head."

For the album, Beckley says there was a pragmatic reason for putting his own name as the title for his 10th solo outing. "There wasn't an obvious title that was leaning in its favor, and I've never done a self-titled album, so it felt like, OK, this might be it," he says.

Beckley plays the bulk of the instruments on 12 tracks but gets help from a core group of players that includes former Chicago bassist Jason Scheff, guitarist Steve Fekete, drummer Brian Young and backing vocalist Brian Eichenberger. Nick Lane and Matt Combs, also longtime musical fellow travelers, arranged horn and string parts, respectively.

"I tend to do things in layers," says Beckley, who mixed the album himself. He cites influences such as Tom Petty's Wildflowers and, more recently, The 1975. "I've been kind of dipping back into the Wall of Sound stuff and using more echoes and just making it bigger. It might not sound like that at first, but if you were to put some headphones on and listen you start to notice little things that make the songs work."

Gerry Beckley continues a musical path that's now in its seventh decade and, in Beckley's mind, a continuing conversation between a songwriter and his audience. "I'm proud of all (the albums)," he says. "But I really like this album a lot. I think the sum of all the parts is really great. And I can't wait to do more."

Check out Gerry Buckley's Facebook page for updates.

Vintage Rockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16558214895556962518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356418191057573401.post-20538617628158267082024-03-05T10:51:00.000-08:002024-03-05T10:51:41.231-08:00Jon Anderson & The Band Geeks Announce North American 'Yes Epics, Classics, and More' Tour

Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks have announced the first 22 shows of the 2024 Yes Epics, Classics, and More tour. The duo offered their names and resources to keep history rolling in Montana’s Big Hole River Valley.
"Tim and I have both played in quite a few honkytonks over the years so it’s high time to ensure Wise River Club’s place of history," Gibbons said in a statement. "The entire club is something quite special and now the welcome mat has been definitively deployed. The Wise River vibe is perfect to share with the rest of the world.”

Montana added: “Our aim is to give WRC patrons a true Montana experience with lodging, food, drink and music. It’s a place where guests can let their hair down and enjoy everything the Big Sky Country has to offer. “

Gibbons and Montana have been making music and trouble together for more than 10 years. Their initial foray was a collectively self-referential song titled “This Beard Came Here To Party.” The Montana-Gibbons composition went on to become the de facto theme song of the hirsute World Champion Boston Red Sox
More recently, the two created the popular line of hot sauce, branded “Whisker Bomb,” now a supermarket success. The Whisker Bomb line includes their “Classic,” and “Have Mercy Hot” pepper sauces as well as “Sweet Heat” and “Blanco” BBQ sauces plus “Scorpion Garlic” and “Green Machine” salsas. Those potent products are proudly served in select restaurants and grocery stores and, of course, at the Wise River Club.

In addition to food and drink, The Wise River Club features onsite cabins for rental lodging with a real “old west” ambiance. Visitors can explore all the Big Hole Valley offers including, fishing, hiking, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, and even panning for gold.

In short, The Wise River Club holds the ultimate Montana experience, a place to experience “The Cowboy Way” for a truly great time.

For more info, go to wiseriverclub.com.
Vintage Rockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16558214895556962518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356418191057573401.post-41745207918971046312024-03-01T07:47:00.000-08:002024-03-01T07:47:57.614-08:00Black Country Communion Announce First New Album In Seven Years

Black Country Communion, featuring Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham, and Derek Sherinian, is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of their fifth studio album, V, available worldwide on June 14. Shirley captures the essence of the band's journey, stating, "For a band that started out as a collection of the best practitioners of their instruments, they very quickly found a unique sound. This time around, it has more purpose, the riffs are tougher, and there are hooks! Yes, hooks! It’s the most cohesive record, full of soul and grit, and I think this is the one that’s going to be the benchmark for Black Country Communion." Glenn agrees, “In my opinion, we had the best time recording this record at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, tons of fun & a magical recording. Meet you inside the music.”
"Stay Free" is a powerhouse track that blends hard rock's raw energy with a heavy dose of blues, channeling the spirit of legends like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. It sets the tone for what fans can expect from V – a testament to the band's dynamic synergy and creative evolution.

Since their debut in 2010, Black Country Communion has delivered a series of critically acclaimed albums, each showcasing the group's ability to fuse British blues-rock with American soul in a way that captivates audiences worldwide. Their return with V and the single "Stay Free" reaffirms their status as rock royalty and showcases their growth as musicians and storytellers.

Shirley's insight into the recording process highlights the unique chemistry and camaraderie within the band. "When we convened in 2023 to start recording the album V, it really was like picking up the day after the most recent gig," Shirley reflects. "The camaraderie is immediately evident. Once they start playing, everyone is deadly serious, and the music sounds like this band, and nothing else sounds like it."

V is a milestone that celebrates the journey, talent, and vision of Black Country Communion. As the band embarks on this new chapter, they invite fans old and new to join them in experiencing the depth and power of 'V' and the electrifying energy of "Stay Free."

The news follows the announcement of the band’s upcoming performance at the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, FL on Sunday, March 17. This rare appearance will be the first live performance in America from the band in over 11 years. Presented by Joe Bonamassa's Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation, all profits from the concert will be donated to support music education and musicians in need. The band is also set to appear on the Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea cruise, sailing from Miami to Cozumel, Mexico from March 18-22.

V is available for pre-order now. Reviews have been universally positive.

The subject of Joel Selvin’s latest book was raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles and got his start as a professional drummer touring with the Everly Brothers in the mid-1960s. Jim Gordon’s penchant for creative and astonishingly accurate musicianship earned him regular session work, joining the community retroactively referred to as The Wrecking Crew.

His preternatural intuition and perfect sense of time can be heard on more than 30 Top 10 singles including several #1 hits, such as the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations,” Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” and “I Got You Babe” by Sonny & Cher (he also supplied the literal beat for “The Beat Goes On” by the latter). He has been immortalized on albums by George Harrison, John Lennon and the Byrds, among dozens of other household name music acts.

Gordon was notably the drummer for Derek and the Dominos and provided the piano coda for their evergreen anthem “Layla.” Joel Selvin details how Gordon didn’t merely keep time, but he was also instrumental in shaping compositions; whether it was his Latin-influenced rhythms on “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” by Steely Dan or his monumental drum break on the Incredible Bongo Band’s “Apache” (a staple of hip-hop from the genre’s inception, having been sampled on over 750 other records), he wasn’t just a player on hits, he made them hits.

Selvin’s narrative follows the man who many consider one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, from his humble beginnings as a teenage touring musician, to his many landmark accomplishments in the studio and on the road, through his downward spiral into mental illness, matricide and incarceration. With the cooperation of the drummers’s family, and based on his trademark extensive, detailed research, Selvin uncovers one of the darkest stories in popular music.

Drums & Demons: The Tragic Journey of Jim Gordon is available at Amazon and other fine book retailers.

.
Vintage Rockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16558214895556962518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356418191057573401.post-31601839457503604242024-02-27T09:15:00.000-08:002024-02-27T09:15:28.485-08:00Dirty Honey Release New Music Video For 'Coming Home (Ballad of the Shire)'

Currently on their third consecutive U.K./European tour, Dirty Honey has released a new music video for “Coming Home (Ballad of the Shire)," from the band’s latest album, Can’t Find The Brakes.
The “Coming Home” video offers an unexpected element from a band best known for its high-energy, sexy, bluesy rock’n’roll and reflects the song’s message about navigating through the peaks and valleys of life. With lyrics by vocalist Marc LaBelle, the song is a deeply personal, heartfelt tale of love and life’s everyday challenges: the insecurities, the misunderstandings, the words spoken that you wish you hadn’t, and the hurt inflicted that you can’t magically erase. But, in the end, the realization is that no matter the challenges, home is where your heart is, home is where you belong, and home is just a few more miles ahead. Check out the video below.

Said LaBelle, "Being musicians that live on the road, ‘Home' has become wherever it is that we’re playing music, rather than a particular place. We wanted to showcase our separate journeys, knowing full well that the music will always call us back home.”

Directed, shot, and edited by cinematographer Mark Christy, the “Coming Home” video was filmed in January, taking the band - LaBelle, guitarist John Notto, bassist Justin Smolian, and drummer Jaydon Bean - to various U.S. locations.

Explained LaBelle, "We went to Snoquamish for the snow and to Durango and Flagstaff for the train scenes. The Gibson Garage London is located at 61-62 Eastcastle St, London, UK just off Oxford Street.

At the Gibson Garage London kickoff event, Gibson announced it has entered into a collaborative partnership with Page. Being the main music writer in Led Zeppelin, the guitarist leveraged his blues and folk inspirations to orchestrate the pioneering rock sound that became the signature of the band, and revolutionized rock across all of its future variations.

“When I met with Cesar (Gueikian, President, and CEO of Gibson) and he explained what the future of Gibson looked like, I knew I needed to be involved,” Page said. “There is a spirit in the place; after seeing the people working at the factories and getting a connection with them, I knew that picking up that Les Paul Custom and the Doubleneck all those years ago was certainly the right decision.”

Gueikian added: “Jimmy Page deserves a very important chapter in the history of Gibson. We think of Jimmy as an ambassador emeritus of guitars and a music trailblazer in the birth and evolution of rock! In many ways, Jimmy is responsible for the success, continued innovation, and evolution of post-Golden-Era Gibson. We are grateful for Jimmy’s trust in the Gibson team, and we look forward to paying tribute to him by bringing this epic collaboration to life.”

At the Gibson Garage London, music lovers can design their own Made-to-Measure guitar inside the Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab by selecting a unique guitar top off the wall and choosing the specs inside and out. Whatever style of player you may be there’s such a wide variety of guitars to choose from. Enjoy!”

Sir Brian May of Queen also didn't mince words when it came to his assessment of the new Gibson Garage. “The new Gibson Garage London will be just what we all used to dream a guitar shop should be-a place where a young player can feel welcome and mix with the finest instruments, amps, and ancillary gear - and NOT be told to keep their hands to themselves! It's a new era in Rock - and the Twang is still the Thang!”

At the Gibson Garage London, music fans will experience weekly live performances, artist showcases and signings, and panel discussions from musicians and artists, all from its state-of-the-art stage located on the lower level of the Garage. The Gibson Gallery, a bi-annual revolving gallery wall, will celebrate the photography and art of British artists and musicians.

The inaugural exhibition at the Gibson Gallery will debut with an exclusive collection from music photographer Gered Mankowitz. For the past 50 years, Mankowitz’s portraits have helped to shape the iconic images of music’s key players. The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, PP Arnold, Kate Bush, Elton John, The Jam, Eurythmics, and Oasis, and many more have all looked down the lens of Mankowitz’s camera.

This Gibson Gallery exhibit will also feature rare and unseen portraits from Mankowitz’s unrivaled archive, which is curated by RedHouse Gallery in association with Iconic Images.

Vintage Rockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16558214895556962518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356418191057573401.post-62661257239770154612024-02-21T10:15:00.000-08:002024-02-21T10:15:16.785-08:00 Foreigner’s Mick Jones Shares Parkinson’s Disease Battle

Foreigner founder Mick Jones’ ongoing absence from the band’s live concerts since 2022 has been widely noticed and commented on by fans. He’s now revealing that it is Parkinson’s disease that has sidelined him from being on stage with the group, which is in the midst of a farewell tour.
“Fans will have become very aware that for some time now, I have not been performing onstage with the band. Several years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I want everyone to know that I am doing alright,” Jones said in a statement released on Wednesday (Feb. 21). “However, I’ve always liked to be at my best when performing onstage, and sadly, at present, I find that a bit difficult. I am still very much involved in the background with Foreigner and remain a presence. Parkinson’s is a daily struggle; the important thing is to persevere and remind myself of the wonderful career I’ve had in music. I thank all the fans who have supported Foreigner throughout the years and continue to attend our concerts — I want you to know I appreciate your support; it always means so very much to me, but especially so at this point in my life.”

The English-born Jones, 79, formed Foreigner during 1976 in New York, shortly after playing in the Leslie West Band. He put together a band of British and American musicians, including Ian McDonald of King Crimson fame and Lou Gramm from the band Black Sheep, and hit it out of the box with a self-titled debut in 1977, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200, was certified five-times platinum and launched the enduring hits “Feels Like the First Time” and “Cold as Ice.” In its wake Foreigner has released eight more studio albums and sold more than 80 million records worldwide, spawning additional hits such as “Hot Blooded,” “Urgent,” “Juke Box Hero” and “I Want to Know What Love Is” (the lattermost a Billboard Hot 100 topper).

Earlier this month the group received its first-ever nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. After the first week of fan voting, Foreigner ranked third, behind Ozzy Osbourne and Peter Frampton, with well over 100,000 votes.

During his last years of touring with the band Jones would come on for a few songs each night, a bit like a special guest at the shows. Foreigner is currently led by bassist Jeff Pilson, who’s been with the band since 2004, and frontman Kelly Hansen, who joined the following year.

In a previous interview, Jones was asked about the prospect of Foreigner continuing without him on board. “That’s a tough one,” he said, adding that, “I look at it as a team. If you think about…any kind of sports teams, they change players all the time. The thought of my music carrying on in that way has some appeal to me.”

Pilson, meanwhile, said last year that Jones still makes “the final decision” on anything related to the band — including checking off on the farewell tour that began last summer. “I would say it was difficult for him because (Foreigner) is his baby,” the bassist noted. “This is his lifetime achievement. It’s difficult, but I know he endorses the decision.” The tour is slated to finish in North America this summer; dates have been announced through Aug. 28, including a summer run with Styx and John Waite. Band manager Phil Carson says some international dates might take the tour into 2025, however.

There may also be some new Foreigner music in the offing — the band’s first since 2009’s Can’t Slow Down album, save for “The Flame Still Burns” from the 2017 compilation 40. “It is very much in the realm of possibility,” Pilson said last year. “We do have some tracks floating around unfinished, and they’re unfinished for a reason; we haven’t figured out what to do just yet. But they’re good songs, so at some point I’m really hoping they come out.”

Hansen added that Jones has been writing with longtime collaborator Marti Frederiksen. “There’s a whole bunch of stuff in different stages of completion,” he said. “We’ve got stuff going back a long time, so I think that might be something that’s going to happen.”
Vintage Rockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16558214895556962518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356418191057573401.post-35158767187863753782024-02-20T08:36:00.000-08:002024-02-20T08:36:03.891-08:00AC/DC Announce Limited Edition Gold Vinyl Legacy Titles

AC/DC played their very first show on December 31, 1973 at Chequers Nightclub in Sydney, Australia. The 10-song collection will be available on standard vinyl, CD, and digital download. A limited edition double LP vinyl edition of Defiance Part 2: Fiction featuring three bonus tracks will be available exclusively on Record Store Day, April 20. Pre-orders are available at https://sunrecords.lnk.to/Fiction.

Defiance Part 2: Fiction sees Hunter following last year’s critically acclaimed Defiance Part 1 with a second collection of mighty new songs as impassioned and powerful as anything in his landmark hall of fame-worthy canon. Like its predecessor, the new album boasts one of the most dazzling all-star lineups ever committed to record, including such close friends and lifelong fans as Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen, and Tom Petersson (Cheap Trick), Brian May (Queen), Lucinda Williams, Dean DeLeo, Robert De Leo, & Eric Kretz (Stone Temple Pilots), Joe Elliott and Phil Collen (Def Leppard), Johnny Depp, Billy Bob Thornton and J.D. Andrew (The Boxmasters), Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan), Waddy Wachtel (Stevie Nicks, Jackson Browne), David Mansfield (Bob Dylan, T Bone Burnett), Tony Shanahan (Patti Smith), Steve Holley (Wings), Morgan Fisher (Mott the Hoople), and – in what proved among their final studio recordings – the late, great Jeff Beck and Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters). Additionally, for the Record Store Day Vinyl the special guests on two tracks include: Mike McCready and Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam), Chris Robinson and Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes).

Defiance Part 2: Fiction – which features an original cover painting by Depp – includes the first single, “Precious,” featuring Taylor Hawkins on drums, Joe Elliott on background vocals and instantly identifiable guitar from longtime mate Brian May (who began his own road to superstardom when Queen supported Mott the Hoople on their blockbuster 1974 tour of the UK and North America). “Precious” premieres today on all DSPs and streaming services.

“We got on really well with Queen,” Hunter says. “When you’re in a band you can get really bored with each other but they were just normal blokes, it was like being on the road with nine guys instead of just five. Freddie was hilarious and I’ve kept up with Brian to this day.”

Hunter has stood in the spotlight for nearly seven decades, from fronting Mott the Hoople and his renowned partnership with Mick Ronson to his internationally lauded 21st century renaissance with the Rant Band. The Defiance project came together in 2020 as Hunter worked on new songs in his Connecticut basement alongside his longtime collaborator, guitarist/producer/multi-instrumentalist Andy York. With quarantine rules in effect, longtime manager Mike Kobayashi and famed rock ‘n’ roll photographer Ross Halfin suggested Hunter reach out to some of his friends and fellow artists to fill in the tracks. A spectacular selection of stars immediately agreed, building out Hunter’s demos with their trademark talents.

Now Hunter returns with Defiance Part 2: Fiction, again boasting a historic roster of guest artists while evincing a harder lyrical edge and denser musical approach. Having long used his voice to explore and examine contemporary issues, Hunter is once more pointing his passionate pen at a society seemingly more out of control with each passing day.

“I was trying to avoid all that on Part 1,” Hunter says, “but on Part 2, it caught up with me. Most of those were written two or three years back, so I wanted to get it all out before whatever takes hold in November. It would be dated after the fact.”

Songs like the legalization anthem “Weed” – featuring Stone Temple Pilots’ Dean DeLeo (guitar), Robert De Leo (bass), and Eric Kretz (drums) and the epic “Fiction” – with keyboards from Mott the Hoople’s Morgan Fisher and a stirring string arrangement from David Mansfield (Bob Dylan, T Bone Burnett) – are full of righteous fury and vibrant spirit, Hunter’s perspective and gift for protest music as clear-eyed and independent as ever

“I'm neither left nor particularly right,” Hunter adds. “I'm just straight down the middle. And so I tried to write from that point of view. An eagle has two wings and if one falls off it perishes. That's what I'm trying to get at. A bit of common sense, you know, Thomas Paine stuff.”

Countless highlights abound through Defiance Part 2: Fiction, from a pair of irresistibly crunchy rockers (“People” and “Kettle of Fish”) featuring three founding members of Cheap Trick to the raw, emotional “What Would I Do Without You,” the latter of which sees Hunter sharing lead vocals with Lucinda Williams – the first duet in his extensive canon.

“Lucinda and her husband came to one of my shows in Nashville,” Hunter says. “I love her voice, there’s something very childlike, and you just know it’s her straight away. You don’t forget that voice.”

Much to his surprise, Hunter is currently hard at work writing songs for a third installment in the Defiance project. Though born from expediency and quarantine, the communal nature of Defiance has proven a remarkably fruitful creative path for Ian Hunter, still another collaborative milestone in his indefatigable journey through rock ‘n’ roll.

“I never initiated this,” Ian Hunter says. “It just kind of just happened and it turned out great. So I’m going to write some more songs and we’ll see what happens again.”
Vintage Rockhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16558214895556962518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4356418191057573401.post-2036771552445901832024-02-15T09:35:00.000-08:002024-02-15T09:37:05.132-08:00Carl Palmer Releasing 'Fanfare For The Common Man', Career-Spanning Box Set

BMG is releasing a comprehensive three CD and single Blu-ray Disc box set around drummer Carl Palmer's impressive career. Fanfare For The Common Man features music and visuals from the Carl Palmer Band, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Asia and various others.

The Blu-ray Disc comprises The Rhythm of Life, an audio-visual documentary narrated by the drummer that features live and behind-the-scenes footage of ELP, Asia, Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Carl Palmer Band, and ELP Legacy. The album was the soundtrack for the Tina Turner biographical film of the same name and reached No.1 in the UK, also making the top 10 in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Canada, and the top 20 in the US. The album went on to be a platinum record across the world, including the US, UK and Switzerland. It was a collection of songs, some of which were re-recorded from Turner’s ‘Ike & Tina Turner’ period, including “A Fool In Love,” as well as five brand new songs, one of which - “I Don't Wanna Fight" - became a top 10 hit in both the US and UK.

The album also includes Turner's version of The Trammps' disco classic "Disco Inferno," a song she had often performed live in concert in the late 70s but never previously recorded in the studio.
